Summer Reading Challenge

Sign-ups will begin on June 1^st. The Challenge will run for 5 weeks, from June 29^th to July 31^st, and we will have 4 groups of participants:

Group 1 – Kids going into Preschool (3yo), PK, Kindergarten, 1^st grade – this group can log books read independently and books read with a caregiver or family member. We do encourage caregivers to use family reading time to help their young ones grow their habit and reading skills: Practice makes a master!

Group 2 – Kids going into 2^nd, 3^rd, and 4th grade –Books logged should be independently read by the child when possible. We do ask that children be reading at their ability level.

Group 3 – Kids going into Middle School and High School (5^th – 12^th Grade) - Books logged must be independently read by the child. We do ask that children be reading at their ability level.

Group 4 – Adults – Patrons 18+ are encouraged to participate!

All groups will be able to choose from physical books, graphic novels, e-books, and audiobooks; all count! We encourage you to check out books from the library!

All groups will have to set a minimum personal reading goal upon enrollment in the challenge and will be able to make their own book selection. The personal goal is the number of hours you expect to read during the 33 days of the challenge. All minimum goals are welcome to join the challenge, but the minimum personal goal eligible to participate in the prize draw is 11 hours.

All groups – for every 20 minutes you read, we ask you to log it with the provided sticker and tracking sheet. Tracking sheets must be returned by July 31^st. We will provide the tracking sheet and stickers when signing up.

Do you need any help? Ask us! We can help you make the selection from the appropriate reading level of the student/participant. If you do not have a library card, we can help with that too!

PRIZES: Everyone who achieves their goal will be entered into a prize draw for each group. The prize draw will be held on August 3^rd at 1 pm at the library, and everyone is welcome to join us. We will have 1^st and 2^nd place prizes for each group.  Every 1^st place will win an age-appropriate tablet, and every 2^nd place will win a Gift Card/Certificate.
